Did you know that most printers that have a scanner, for example your multi-purpose printer (MFP) or photocopier, have a hard drive in them and that scanned images might be automatically saved on that hard drive? Most data, even if you delete it, can be easily recovered from hard drives. Even a failed hard drive can be recovered, exposing sensitive information and potential risks to your business. Old computer and printer hard drives are one of the easiest ways for your private and confidential data to be stolen, so secure data disposal is a must. Two common methods are 1. using software to securely remove all data on the hard drive, or 2. physically destroy the drives. So, when your device is at the end of its life or being upgraded, make sure you use a reputable company that provides a certificate of data sanitization, to protect yourself and/or your business.
